Grand Prix 4 intermittently crashing to desktop (CTD)

11/1/2017:-

I can say without a doubt that this has resolved the issues with the crash to desktop problem, I have run the game on two machines networked.
let the AI control the cars by pressing the P key ingame, so I can step away and let the race run on it's own. (I'm using keyboard)

Resolution:-

Step 1:-

Entering the PC's bios, for those that don't know how to get in the bios
As the PC boots up, hit the del key several times. I'm sure you will find youtube videos on how to get into bios.

And disable the following for the CPU core features:-

-cool&quiet
-C6 support
-C1E support
-turbo boost
-performance boost
-HPC mode (if this exists some motherboards don't have it)
-Virtualization
-and disabled power management (APM)

The reason for disabling them is to stop the variation and reduction of power to the CPU.
which is what I found was causing the slow down when selecting USE CPU = 0 in gpxpatch

Step 2:-

-Right click on GP4.exe, then properties and on compatibility tab set it to winxpsp2, and select:- Run this program as Administrator
-Right click on gpxpatch.exe then properties and select:- Run this program as Administrator, don't select Run this program in compatibility mode for
-In gpxpatch as mentioned select USE CPU = 0.

Step 3 (Optional)

In the video cards control panel for 3D settings, Add the GP4.exe application and then for
that application turn off all the settings that you can.
You can play around with these settings if you wish, but I just disabled them.
For some reason the game actually looks better

I ran the game 7 times already, it did not crash at all
If you decide to network the game, like I did for testing, In gpxpatch select USE CPU = 0 for the Host PC
and the Join PC select USE CPU = 1.
I observed that if you select 0 for both the gameplay will lag. Once the game is loaded hit the O key on both PC's to measure CPU occupancy.
One will be 20 to 40 and the other machine will read 100, which is normal.

One more tip, after making the step 1 and step 2 changes above.
In the games menu, goto Options---> Graphics----> Advanced

Set everything to maximum, then click on TEST

Once the test completes it will say USE or IGNORE
select USE, then back in the Advanced screen, grab the FPS bar
and slide it down to 25 or to 30 max fps

This game works on this asset the most when it comes to gameplay
if you select the fps too high it will take more resources from the processor.
to measure this stress, hit the O key ingame to see what you get.

That's it, the game now runs as it should

Beautiful
