RELEASED: Megapatch F3000 1989

Hi everyone

I am getting quite close to finishing my megapatch for 1989's F3000 season. It started it in about 2010 but it always fell to the bottom of the list as I had to do it from scratch. Even all the car skins and most of the helmets. I have just got to do the track arts and a few track jams.

Its already looking good. I hope to complete it this month.

Its a great year with tracks like Pau (one of the best ever made for GP3) Enna, Birmingham and Vallalunga.

There are so many drivers that reached F1 including Alesi, Donnelly, Hill, Lehto, Comas, Katayama, Blundell and Bernard and a few less known drivers.

I think you are gonna like it!

They were just over 11 years. And this is reason enough to thank all of you, who supported and joined GPGSL-3.

In all, counting the performance races and the two special races, with guests, were 235 stages. It's a lot, is not it?

There were 42 teams. More than 70 drivers. That helped build GPGSL-3 history.

The first part ends here. Who knows, the story can not continue?

To all of you, thank you!!

Some GP4 questions (underfloor issue, quali length, Xbox 360 controller)

$

Hi! I'm new to Grand Prix 4, having played Grand Prix 3 years ago. I've got it working, seemingly smoothly, on Windows 10 and have been trying a couple of things.

I have some questions that I didn't immediately find an answer to (some of them I tried Googling a fair bit). That might mean there isn't an answer, but maybe somebody can help? Thank you!

1. I've been running the Talladega track, which runs absolutely fine, but for some reason the bottom of the car lights up under incredible strain when hitting faster speeds. This seems to happen to the human car a lot, but not the computer car so much, so it makes it impossible to be as fast as the CPU even in rookie mode. Is there any explanation for this, or perhaps something in a physics file I can change to allow me to run this track? I've not messed with any physics files and I know I used to install one in GP3. (I'm also having trouble getting another oval, Elimeno, to work, I've posted in its own thread)

2. Is there any way to set Qualifying to over 60 minutes long? I know GPxPatch can extend a race experimentally, but not sure if any tools can increase the qualifying timer. Or even stalling the timer somehow, so it won't count down. It'd be really good to be able to do this.

3. I'm using an Xbox 360 controller at the moment (no wheel right now), which I've got working in terms of acceleration/braking/steering. Is there any way to map specific keyboard commands to the buttons on the control, in GPxPatch or some other software?

4. Likewise, any reason the CPU can seemingly go so much faster even in rookie mode? I feel unable to catch a CPU car both on keyboard and a controller, even with all aids on. I'm wondering if I've configured something wrong? I feel like setting to the easiest mode should make some of the CPUs pretty easy to pass, but they're not on the default tracks.

I'm cars I've added, mostly based around the Toyota TF108, if it helps. (But I've not changed any physics or other game behaviour files, maybe that's my problem for 1 and 4, I don't know.)

Thank you for any help! :)

Oval circuits

Hey again, there's some really old threads about oval circuits but the tracks listed are either not available anymore or all of the images are dead, so thought I'd ask anew :)

I'm a fan of driving oval tracks every now and again, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any good ones for GP4? It seems like the game may have an issue with banking a bit (according to old threads) so a flatter type oval would be really interesting especially. I've already got Talladega (works, but seems to be car floor issues) and Elimeno (can't get it to load).

Performance problem

I have a strange problem.

I am trying to make a change using GP4Tweaker, specifically the "jump start realism enabler", yet whenever i do this it renders a race unplayable, it turns it into a slideshow.

During qualifying or practice the game runs perfectly normal, yet the race as i said, turns the game into a slideshow, absolutely unplayable.

I'm assuming that because i'm making a change thats related to the race itself, thats why its affecting only the race but not practice or qualifying.

I have deleted the F1Graphics.cfg and let the game create a new one, which didn't solve the problem.

I have played with different texture settings within F1Graphics yet nothing.

I'm stumped, what on earth would cause this to occur?

I have a high end computer which can easily handle GP4 so thats definitely not the problem.

Thanks.

Slasher.

Has IndyCar Racing FPS-tool ever been created?

$

In 1995, Frames Per Second adjuster for Grand Prix/World Circuit (1991), or "gpfps" in short, was released. Formula One Grand Prix already supported 25 FPS, which gave smooth FPS, at least for all the people who were used to 25 FPS in PAL-area. But this tool gave people the possibility to push FPS further, to 30 or even more. This tool gave a side effect to the simulator, if FPS was set too high, but to the some point, the tool was useful for giving smoother FPS and keeping the simulator stable.

Meanwhile, Papyrus' IndyCar Racing (1993) was able to give fully textured environments, this newer simulator never matched F1GP by FPS. The highest the sim is able to give is 15 FPS, which doesn't look smooth at all by today's standards. We have IndyCar Racing 2 / CART Racing (released first time in 1995), which can handle 30 FPS, but still, IndyCar Racing is a great early racing simulator.

I'm just curious: has anyone ever attempted to make a tool like "gpfps" for IndyCar Racing? If such tool exists, it might have disappeared from the Net over the years. But it would be great to know if such tool has ever been available. - Or if it wasn't, it would still be cool to be created some day, hopefully encouraging more people to get their hands on this early example of a great driving simulator and exploring the history of sim racing.

Astronomical telescope project

A couple of months ago a kind soul donated a monster telescope to my local astronomy group. It's around 25 to 30 years old. I've already spent a bit of my own money to get this up to scratch. The primary mirror needs re-coating which is expensive. I've been rattling the tin around the group and the response has been pretty much tumbleweed, apart from only a few members. Surprising given they'll all want to look through it. :-/
So, if you can spare a little money, I'd really appreciate it. M.

How to join the GPGSL

Joining the GrandPrixGames SuperLeague is easy. First, find a team with a vacancy (check the entry list). Send a pm to the team owner expressing your interest. Usually you will have to get a test seat first.
Over time, your performance file will improve and you have a chance for a transfer to a race seat if a vacancy occurs. Once you have joined the series, you may join the Teams Waiting List if you wish to do so. A requirement on joining is that you must supply a helmet, in tga format to Turbo Lover for the CSM Mod. If you are on the Team Wait List, your cars should be game ready once your team is at the top of the list.

Guest Race Directors

If you would like to assist the GPGSL and run an event, send a pm to mortal and nominate your round. You can if you wish to do so, run the entire round. That is free practice for the test drivers, qualifying and the race.
What do you need to do it? Fraps and freeimageconverter. Ask mortal for the links.
Reduce all your screens to 800x600, upload via www.imageshack.com (strip the last line-uploaded by imageshack) from the entries. Provide a riveting commentary with the screenshots. Edit the final result screen and pm mortal with the link for official results posting by the GPGSL. The free practice can use the 9 key display for the final results. Race results include the driver best laps screen.
For uploading the coverage you will be provided with the GPGTV.org/farked account details.

Short tracks (

As the title suggests, which tracks exist for Grand Prix 4 with a lap time of under 1 minute?

I really like racing short circuits. I've found a few, some of which I can't get to work, and I've looked at the database spreadsheet, although not all tracks have lap time and distance data.

I've tried the following, I might have forgotten one or two:

Working

Motegi Twin Oval
Talladega

Not Working or Unavailable (for me)

Brands Hatch Indy (crash to desktop)
Lime Rock Park (link is dead)
Monza Junior (crash to desktop)
Suzuki Oval (crash to desktop)
Elimeno (crash to desktop)

I can't figure out why so many of them crash, I'm adding the track file into GPxPatch, maybe I'm missing a step that's needed for some but the read me offers no hints.

Vanishing Rain in Saved Game

$

I've now seen an issue happen twice in rain races that I've saved midway through. The issue is that when the game is resumed, the track is dry. Sometimes the rain is still falling, and the track gets wet again within a few laps, but in the meantime we're driving around on wet tires on a dry track. The AI has even pitted (and my crew has called me into the pits) to change onto slicks. Does anyone know why this may be happening?

Hey everyone,

Can I ask if any of the coders amongst us would be interested in helping me out with creating a batch magic data patcher application? I basically just need to be able to run CMagic or equivalent in command line mode, it would REALLY help me out producing stuff this year.

Thanks in advance for any help!

GP4 on keyboard

Hello there!

So, I was deeply devoted to GP2, for me it was absolutely ultimate F1 simulation, and thanx to the GP2 community I kept playing it for a really long time.
Now I wanted to try the last Crammond's GP series - GP4, and I am quite dissapointed - not about the graphics or simulation, but about the controling the game over keyboard - I am keyboard user and I intend to stay that, so here's the question:

I am having huge problems handling the car in wet conditions. Does that mean that keyboard days are over for this game? If not, I'd be very greatful if someone gave me some directions about setting the car for better handling (especially the braking part). I know there is lots of mods and patches, but I am not familiar with them and I woulnd't even know what to look for in such a big database, so I would as well appreciate helping me to choose the essential ones... Right now I'm running a game that I downloaded from gp4central website (Grand Prix 4 v1.02 (patched) (inc. GPxPatch v4.44)).

So much for now. I hope someone answers my questions. Take care and keep up the good work!

p.s: oh yeah, and why does the mechanic keep sending me back to the pit stop after the first lap - even in free practice?

Now back at the track modding with the Paul Ricard if I want to have a beta version (without the race adverts) before the event.
